The weather is getting chilly and you’re just getting ready to bring out your gears when you find out your favorite cashmere has a hole.  Insects like moths and silverfish are especially attracted to high-end fabrics like cashmere.  To fix the damage, turn the garment inside out and gently stretch the hole over a tennis ball.  Using matching thread, weave a circle around the perimeter of the hole to reinforce gnawed-on edges.  Next, make vertical stitches to sew the top to the bottom, picking up the open loops from the stitch to the fabric.  To finish, tie off the thread and gently press with a steam iron.
