An iron set on too high can leave scorches on your delicate white tablecloth covers.  To save your scorched linens, rub the cut side of a raw onion on the affected areas.  The onion will release sulfenic acid, which breaks down loose carbon particles in the burn mark to prevent the stain from becoming permanent.  Soak in sudsy cold water for an hour to further dilute the stain, then launder as usual.
