If you have some time on your hands, consider getting free estimates from general contractors about remodeling your living room. It’s usually a space with a blank canvas so that you can add the colors, patterns and decorations that you want to see, turning the room into an area that the family enjoys.
You probably update your wardrobe with the change of each season. Why not do the same with the living room? Add a few new pieces that reflect the season of the year, such as brown and orange colors in the fall and pink or green in the spring. Give the room an upbeat look that coincides with the time of year, and you’ll soon see that you can easily have a different living room every year with the items that you purchase. Large pieces should be neutral in color to make it easier to add the other accent colors, such as pillows, rugs and pictures.
A sophisticated room could include a mirror over the fireplace with silver accents or a coffee table with silver legs and a glass top. Silver is sometimes a good color to use in the living room as long as it’s paired with a light color, such as teal or yellow. The colors bring each other out in the room, and you’ll have a space that is beautiful to look at while stylish.
If the living room doubles as your entry space or your work area, consider blocking off each area of the room so that you can tell the difference in where to sit and relax and where to work. Add a desk to the room that blends with the other colors and decorations. Consider using a welcoming wallpaper on one wall and a different pattern in the rest of the room that will serve as the living space. Living room furniture can be kept to a large area rug while the entryway can be positioned along the farthest wall near the door. Another fun design is to place two couches with their backs to each other and a coffee table in front of each couch. This will give two conversation areas, especially if you plan on having a lot of people over at the house.
