To keep the “old cabinet” smell from getting on your fabrics (clothes, linens, and bath towels) try lining the shelves, and even the sides and the inside of the cabinet doors. That way, clothes and linens don’t come in direct contact with the wood. You may sprinkle baking soda onto the surfaces before you lay on a sheet of paper, whether plain or decorative. Scented paper liners are a good option but if you’re trying to economize, try this simple trick. After allowing the baking soda to deodorize for some time, sweep it away and replace with fragrant talc or baby powder under the liners.
