downyIf your once bright sink and its metal fixtures are covered in orange-tinged stains and dulling soap scum, don’t despair.  You can easily remove the grunge and still skip the harsh chemical bleaches with fabric softener.  Use a sponge and dab full-strength fabric softener (I use Downy) on stained areas.  Let sit for 15 minutes, then wipe with a damp cloth.  The softener’s fatty acids quickly dissolve the alkaline stains, revealing sparkling porcelain and metal.  And here’s a bonus, the slick, clear coating that remains on the surfaces will prevent mineral and soap residue from sticking, keeping them clean longer.
