Cooking corn? To ensure the corn tastes its best, add a little sugar to the water (about 4 teaspoons per gallon of water) when boiling it. Don’t add salt because it toughens the corn. The sucrose doesn’t sweeten the corn itself, rather, it prevents the kernels’ natural sugar from leaching out during the cooking process.
