Want to give your garden a healthy start?  It’s simple!  Just work a thin layer of coffee grounds into the dirt around your acid-loving plants (roses, azaleas, camellias, rhododendrons). using 1 to 2 cups for every eight bushes.  Repeat once a week.  Coffee grounds contain up to 2 percent nitrogen, a nutrient essential to healthy plant growth, plus their low pH will balance the soil’s acidity to create a healthier environment for developing blooms.  And here’s a bonus:  The coffee grounds will also deter slugs and snails from snacking on your shrubs.
