The Modern Mom
September 17, 2018

Being a mom is hard work – caring after the kids, picking up messes, cleaning, cooking, and a never-ending list of responsibilities.

Every mom needs some time off, at least an hour to do something enjoyable that does not feel like the daily grind.

Hobbies can help you feel more in-tune with yourself and activities you enjoy, as well as take your mind off of the long list of tasks. It’s a great way to feel refreshed, motivated and energized.

Below, I’ve listed 5 hobbies that are not only fun, they are also doable for stay-at-home mom.

1. Drawing

Drawing can be a wonderful way to express your inner creativity and to push your mind to think in a different way.

For many people, it’s very meditative as it requires concentration and forgetting about all other problems or responsibilities.

Sketching, drawing and painting actually help develop different areas of your brain and can help with improving self-esteem.

Most importantly – drawing can feel like a restful, relaxing break. It allows you to sketch at your own pace, without any rules or pressure.

You can use a tracing lightbox to make the drawing experience much easier and relaxing. The soft glow will help you draw with the highest precision, and it also makes tracing super easy.

2.  Blogging

There’s a reason the blogosphere is full of mommy bloggers – it’s a fun hobby and even potential business for moms!

Blogging is challenging, wonderful and fun. It requires a combination of numerous skills including writing, photographing, graphic design, web development and marketing.

Mommies shouldn’t be nervous to open their first blog – you can start off with something small and learn with time.

Even if the blog is only for family and friends to catch up on what’s going on with the family, the challenge of putting together a running blog is a great way to spend time on an interesting goal.

3. Exercise

Exercise may feel more like a nuisance than a hobby but there are ways to make it fun.

Of course, exercise is absolutely vital for staying healthy and getting some endorphins in your system to feel happier.

Pick an exercise that you can enjoy, like Zumba or Yoga. You can follow videos on YouTube and start with beginner positions or steps.

As you improve, it will become more enjoyable.

4. Baking

This may seem like a household chore, but baking can take on a whole different role in your life as a hobby.

Play with ingredients and designs to improve your baking skills. Not only can you enjoy the delicious outcome, you may start creating art!

The internet (and Pinterest in particular) is full of amazingly creative ideas for cupcakes, cake pops, cakes and about any delicious baked good out there.

If you’re up for the challenge, find a recipe and art that you like and start baking and icing.

5. Gardening

Gardens can offer a wonderful way to get some fresh air and enjoy the stunning simplicity of nature.

In a way, they are an escape from the noise, the day-to-day pressure and craziness and can help a mom feel grounded.

The wonderful benefit to this is that gardening is done at home, so moms can easily do gardening while kids are napping or even playing outside.

It’s a creative outlet like no other and is surprisingly relaxing. Plus, the benefit is in having a beautiful garden with an abundance of flowers, fruits and maybe even veggies!

The forest and woodlands are a fun choice to decorate your bedroom. Rustic is becoming more popular and the rustic look will make your bedroom a true retreat. If your bedroom is in a cabin in the woods, so much the better.

Decorating Your Bed

The center of any bedroom is the bed. Choose the size of bed that fits your room. The bed should be large enough to be a centerpiece, but not large enough to take up all the space. Once you have selected your bed, you will need to choose a spread. Matching pillows will not go amiss here, either. A good place to start your search is a company like the Burly Bear, which supplies rustic home decor. Choose a spread with a woods scene.

Let’s choose a bear bedspread as an example. With your bear bedspread, you will want some bed pillows that blend in. Many bed spreads come with matching pillows. Or, you can choose something in the colors of the forest such as beige, dark green or brown. Russet red or orange also blend well. Many companies sell bed sheets and pillow cases that blend in with your scheme.

Other Bedroom Needs

Dressers or wardrobes are the next items to find a place for. One wardrobe can be enough if you need to save space, but most rooms have a set of dressers. To go with rustic, dark wood furniture with a simple sealant blends well. However, other choices that work include solid black metal dressers, white dressers, and light wood designs. Some of these dressers may include a mirror for your room.

Next, lets decide on the window covers. More than likely, your bedspread has a curtain or cover that matches your set. Wooden window shades work well. They come in a variety of hues and will keep your room comfortable.

Now look at the room. What is it missing? This is the time to select some pictures for the walls and to decide if you want to add a chest or a seat somewhere in the room. A place to sit is always useful in any bedroom. Don’t forget the lighting.

Now, your bedroom is finished. Put your feet up and enjoy. If you need more help to decorate your home with rustic home items, the folks at companies like the Burly Bear are available with more ideas.

Whether you are wanting to bring your home up-to-date or are looking to sell it within the next year or two, it may be well worth your costs to consider a few upgrades. However, it can be difficult to know which improvements are truly the best for increasing your home’s value. For example, while painting or removing carpeting can certainly make your home appear more modern to buyers, it may not do much to increase the selling price of the home. Consider these top hot spots in your home that significantly affect value.

While your attic may be one of the last places you think of for a remodel, it can actually be an incredibly useful space. If your attic is big enough, consider turning it into an extra room, such as a playroom or game room. If you do not have a large, steepled attic, you can at least improve your energy savings by adding insulation.

A finished basement is a huge selling point for many home buyers. Not only does it increase the usable square footage of your home, but also it serves as a relaxed area for play and entertaining.

Many buyers today look for energy-efficient windows and doors in a home that they hope to purchase because these will greatly affect their utility costs and their comfort. Switch out older windows for energy-efficient double-paned windows, and exchange wooden outer doors for secure steel or fiberglass options.

Your landscaping is one of the first things that people notice when they come to your home. Consider hiring out this work to a landscape artist who can work with the architectural shapes of your home and who knows which plants work best in your area of the country. Landscaping lights are also popular additions.

Small bathroom remodels can recoup most of your costs in no time at all if you are selling soon. By changing paint colors or wallpaper and updating tub surrounds, counters, fixtures and sinks, you can quickly bring the space up-to-date.

Although an entire remodel may not serve your purposes well, research has shown that a minor kitchen remodel can recoup most of your costs in the long run. Home remodeling services in markham can help you update your sink, countertops, cabinets, flooring, appliances, lights and backsplash, but do not waste money on changing the entire configuration of the room.

Many small updates can be done yourself in an afternoon or a weekend. However, major remodels along with any remodels that affect the overall structure, plumbing or electrical work of your home are best handled by a professional. I’m ready to sell my house Miami no hassle and in very good condition.

Over the course of the past couple of years, a supply chain industry buzzword has become something of a mantra. “Fast fashion” has become an often-repeated buzzword meant to underscore the drive to bring products to the marketplace ever faster.

Fast fashion includes the fact that companies involved in supply chain operations are taking close looks at ways in which the movement of products through supply chains can be accelerated. The reality is that many experts involved in supply chain strategies and operations have come to conclude that too much emphasis may be placed on speed. Indeed, these experts are concerned that with so much emphasis placed on speed in the supply chain industry in this day and age, other important objectives are being overlooked.

It’s Not Just About Speed

While the importance of bringing products to market at a reasonable pace cannot be understated, speed is not the only issue. Other factors which must be considered include quality, innovation, and cost. As noted previously, with so much emphasis put on getting a product to market fast, these other considerations end up on a back burner time and again.

Supply Chain Speed and Cost

Oftentimes, as new technologies and practices are implemented to speed up the process of getting a product through a supply chain and onto the market rapidly, costs associated with that product increase. The fact is that making a supply chain more speedy nearly always necessitates a financial investment or expenditure. Business being business, the cost associated with speeding up a supply chain nearly always is passed on to a consumer who purchases the product one on the marketplace.

Before any decision is made to implement a technology or practice designed to speed up the supply chain process, a true cost benefit analysis must occur. A candid consideration needs to be made of whether the increase in delivery speed associated with a supply chain actually is worth the eventually uptick in the cost of a particular product.

Yes, consumers nearly always like the idea of being able to access or obtain a particular product sooner rather than later. However, for virtually every consumer, there exists a tipping point at which the added cost associated with an accelerated supply chain process simply isn’t worth what he or she will end up paying for a product.

Consumers are willing todo some balancing when it comes to quality and speed. In other words, they may be willing to sacrifice a bit when it comes to quality of product delivery if an item can be moved through a supply chain process faster.

For example, if a consumer can get his or her hands on a desired product notably sooner via an alteration in the supply chair process that might preclude delivery of an item to that individual’s home, he or she may be willing to snatch it up.

With that noted, if a supply chain acceleration increases the risk of some sort of negative impact on the product itself, a consumer necessarily will balk. Few consumers are willing to see product quality itself take a hit merely to accelerate its delivery on to the marketplace.

As is the case with increased cost, consumers are open to innovation in a supply chain — but, as with cost, innovative developments in a supply chain have limits. A solid illustration involves discussions that have been had regarding the use of drones to speed up the supply chain, particularly as it is associated with delivery to product end users. When the idea was initially floated, beginning in 2015 and onward, that drones might be widely utilized to deliver parcels and products to consumers, the initial response was fairly positive. But, within a very short period of time, the downsides associated with using drone technology to deliver products to end use consumers, started to percolate in people’s minds.

The use of drone as end user deliver vehicles provides a prime illustration of how technology and end up being inconsistent with an effective supply chain operation. Technology can take a supply chain off the rails, even when it is otherwise an effective innovation.

In contemplating fast fashion and the supply chain, speed must never be the only factor discussed and considered. Cost needs to be closely analyzed in conjunction with overall cost impact of a fast fashion protocol, together with quality issues and the impact of associated technology. These considerations come into play at different points within a supply chain, and quite significantly with the end use consumer.

It’s common today for kids to be so attached to their electronics that they hardly afford time to go and dig in the dirt outside. Yet, outdoor play has a whole lot of health benefits for the young one. Aside from allowing him or her to explore the natural environment and draw in some much-needed fresh air, it helps them develop muscle strength and coordination skills. Even more importantly, playing outside lets your kid gain self-confidence that’s an essential recipe for success in sports, studies, career and general interaction throughout the rest of their lives. The beautiful part is, there are so many fun outdoor activities that your kid can engage in. Here are 5.

1. Creating nature crafts
Once you get out into the yards, you find yourself in the middle of nature, replete with all manner of things that you can use to create so many different nature-inspired crafts. Kids generally love to create things with their hands. Taking them into the yards and allowing them and helping them to get creative will be a great way to make their day.

2. Chalking up the sidewalk
It’s lovely to watch hat your kid has drawn. It’s even more amazing what the drawing is out on the sidewalk. Get him some glow-in- the-dark chalk so he can immerse himself in this classic activity. Send out your kiddo with a box full of sidewalk chalk and encourage them to be imaginative. You will be surprised how these artistic kids can get.

3. Go swinging in a hammock
Try trying a hammock someplace in the woods, climb on it and just remain there swinging, resting, unwinding – the feeling is great. Well, it’s great for toddlers. You don’t want to miss the huge smile that will bubble out of her cheeks when swinging on that suspended network of fabric. It’s a powerful way to make your kid’s afternoon. Bonus: remember to take some pictures, you’ll cherish the memories.

4. Yard work and gardening
A child will always want to imitate what you do. Try weeding flowers with your young one around you and it won’t be long before she reaches for a tool to “help”. Now that we know so, why not encourage them to get handy by showing them weeds to pull, water to sprinkle on flowers and even a kid-size rake to keep them occupied. This task might just be the most fun thing for your little hobbyist.

5. Visit your local park
Parks are hotbeds of fun. They are filled with outdoor toys for kids. A stint at the local park with your kid can go a long way in boosting his enthusiasm. There’ll be more space for the toddler to run around and enjoy himself. Even better, he may meet other kids and make friends.

While outdoor play can often mean a lot of mess, it’s worth it every bit. Besides, more mess means more fun. Just be sure to slather the kiddo in sunscreen before letting into the sun.

Whenever outside temperatures plummet or soar, consumers find themselves spending veritable fortunes on their energy bills. It’s only during the few, temperate months of the year that many people are actually able to control this portion of their overhead costs. Surprisingly, however, this doesn’t have to be the case. With the strategies that follow, you can maintain manageable utility bills during even the absolute hottest months of the year.

Choose A Reasonable Thermostat Setting And Then Stick To It

Give yourself a moment to acclimate to the warmer weather when outside temperatures first start to rise. Your body has its own, built-in thermostat that tells it when to cool itself off, and when to retain heat. If you constantly keep yourself at a single, moderate temperature by remaining in rooms that never challenge this thermostat, your body will gradually grow less adept at adapting to seasonal changes. This means that the first thermostat setting you choose for your home can actually be a bit higher than what you’re used to. This way, your body can adapt to the changes of the summer season, just as it is naturally wanting to do. If you build up your internal ability to cool yourself off naturally, you can actually get away with setting your thermostat five to ten degrees higher than you’ve been doing in years past.

Never Underestimate The Benefits Of A Cold Shower

As soon as the summer months hit, go ahead and turn down the temperature on your hot water heater by approximately ten degrees, you can hire a plumber from water heater repair services to help you if you have difficulties with the system. By some estimates, you can cut your energy costs by as much as three to five percent by doing so. Best of all, you’ll not only have a simple and hassle-free way to limit your energy spending, but you’ll also have the instant cooling benefits of an icy wash down whenever you want. This will make you a lot less prone to cranking the AC up when you’re feeling overheated.

Clean Your AC Filter Each And Every Month

When it comes to maintaining an air conditioner Downingtown PA locals often make the mistake of underestimating the need for routine filter cleanings. Contrary to popular belief, this isn’t something that should be done just once or twice each year. If you have a central HVAC system that you rely on all year long, then your filter should be checked at least once every thirty days. You should also schedule professional AC maintenance at least twice every year.

Cook Outside Or Before The Sun Rises

You can use a rice steamer or a crock pot to avoid heating up your home at dinnertime. When the summer heat is on, it is very refreshing to have a cold green tea matcha at home. If you have a big family to feed, think about cooking the majority of your meals outside. Another excellent way to reduce the amount of additional and unnecessary heat that you add to your home during meal preparation is to cook your meals before the sun comes up. You can make cold pasta salad, grilled chicken for Caesar salad, or anything else that’s quick and easy to reheat and store.

Invest In A Tube Of Caulk

Lowering your energy bills really can be as easy as investing in a single tube of caulk. If there are any cracks and gaps around your windows or doors, these spaces will be letting conditioned air flow out of the home all summer long. Not only does this have a very significant impact on household energy costs, but it can also make it downright impossible to maintain ambient indoor temperatures, even with the air conditioner running full blast. Sealing these areas up won’t take long and it won’t cost much at all. Moreover, for every crack or gap that you seal, you’ll also be closing off another entry point for insects and other pests that prefer your cool, air conditioned home to the sweltering temperatures outside, and you can always hire the Austin pest control at if so experience more problems.

You don’t have to spend a fortune on air conditioning when the summer months arrive. With these simple strategies, you can limit your spending on energy while still staying comfortably cool. Best of all, you’ll be protecting your home from pests and building up your internal thermostat along the way.

Which skin care cream should you use if your primary goal is to keep your skin looking young? Read on and learn more.  In short, you should choose one that has the most powerful anti-aging ingredients and the least amount of other stuff.  If anti-aging effects are what matter most to you, then do not choose a skin care product based on how good it smells.  (There are perfumes for that.)  Ignore the social media influencers and celebrity endorsements and do not choose based on glamorous brand names.  If anything, seek a recommendation from your dermatologist about which over-the-counter ingredients are the most valued in anti-aging products.

Timeless Products Are Made from Trusted Anti-Aging Ingredients

Don’t trust overblown claims about the power of one or another ingredient.  There is no superfood that can be made into a topical product that can replace everything else currently on the market.  You should automatically exclude any skincare products sold through a multi-level marketing (MLM) business model.  The reason for this is not that the products are harmful, but rather that you can find nearly identical products for a much lower price.

Timeless Skin Care products have just what you need and nothing more.  For example, Timeless Coenzyme Q10 serum is an anti-aging serum with Matrixyl 3000.  Matrixyl 3000 is the closest thing to the prescription product Retin-A that you can buy over the counter.  The serum also contains Coenzyme Q10, a compound that occurs naturally in young people’s skin and helps with the production of collagen.  Likewise, it has hyaluronic acid, which is a moisturizer.  It does not have any parabens or artificial fragrances.

You should choose Timeless Skin Care products because they contain trusted anti-aging ingredients in effective concentrations.  Their anti-aging skin care products are free of filler ingredients.
